The Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center is set to become the largest and most advanced training facility in the WNBA, and it is expected to open before the 2027 WNBA season, according to a news release. The 108,000-square-foot, three-story building will become the year-round home of the Fever and is located in downtown Indianapolis, near Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Fever and the NBA’s Indiana Pacers play games. “These renderings bring our vision into focus,” Fever team president Kelly Krauskopf said in a statement. “Every element of this facility has been intentionally designed around our players, including how they train, recover, connect, and live day to day. This will set a new standard for women’s sports and continue to position Indianapolis at the center of that momentum.” The facility will feature amenities such as light-filled dual practice courts, a comprehensive recovery suite including sauna, massage and treatment rooms, a luxury locker room and private lounge, a chef-driven nutrition program, and lifestyle and support amenities such as a content production studio, player nail, hair and makeup salon, and dedicated child care spaces. It will also feature “The Hub,” a central gathering place designed to celebrate team achievements along with franchise history. There will also be front office and coaching spaces. The facility will also feature fan-facing experiences on the ground level and a public lobby housing the Hall of Excellence to celebrate the franchise’s history. “Throughout this process, player feedback and needs have been the top priority for this training center, and I am grateful that our organization continues to invest in the Fever and set the standard for player care,” Fever center Aliyah Boston said in a statement. “Every aspect of our experience has been thought of, supporting who we are as players on the court just as much as who we are as people off of it. I can’t wait until we make this building our home next season.” Construction began last summer, and the Fever joined a list of WNBA franchises to have (or to have announced plans to build) a complex dedicated solely to their teams. In March 2022, the Las Vegas Aces moved into a 50,000-square-foot headquarters, and in April 2024, the Seattle Storm announced their “Center for Basketball Performance,” a 50,000-square-foot facility. The Phoenix Mercury opened their 58,000-square-foot practice facility in July 2024, and in November, the Los Angeles Sparks announced they would build a 40,000-square-foot facility. Indiana selected the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, with the No. 1 pick in 2024. In 2023, the Fever ranked second to last in attendance, drawing a little more than 4,000 fans per game, according to Across the Timeline. Upon Clark’s arrival in 2024, the Fever ranked first in the WNBA in attendance, averaging more than 17,000, a 325 percent increase, which in turn improved the financial state of the franchise and led to the new practice facility being commissioned. Before Clark’s arrival, the Fever suffered from a seven-year playoff drought, which was broken in Clark’s rookie year as she partnered with Boston, who was drafted No. 1 out of South Carolina in 2023 and won Rookie of the Year that season. The Fever have finished 44-40 over the past two seasons combined and made the playoffs both seasons, though Clark has played just 53 games; she missed most of 2025 with a right groin strain. The Fever lost in the first round of the 2024 playoffs and made the semifinals in 2025, losing to the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces, led by MVP A’ja Wilson, in five games. Indiana holds the No. 10 pick in Monday’s WNBA Draft. Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Devon Henderson is a staff writer for The Athletic.
