Euromillions winner dies in suspected hit-and-run23 minutes agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleLewis AdamsEssexPA MediaAnthony Canty won the Euromillions lottery jackpot days after saving the life of a police officerA Euromillions winner who saved the life of a policeman just days before scooping the £1m jackpot has died in a suspected hit-and-run.Anthony Canty, 39, gave the officer CPR when he collapsed on a bus from Witham, Essex, in April 2020, and netted the huge lottery prize shortly after.However, the Good Samaritan, from Maldon, was knocked off his bicycle in Tiptree on 21 May and died in hospital four days later.Essex Police said the driver of a Ford KA, 18, was arrested in connection with the collision and later released under investigation.He allegedly fled the scene in Maldon Road after the incident at 06:30 BST, while Canty was taken to hospital in a serious condition.Officers located the driver and initially arrested him on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop."He remains under investigation and our enquiries continue," a police spokesman said, as he appealed for witnesses to come forward.PA MediaCanty, who scooped the prize with partner Katie Sullivan, vowed not to give up his day job Canty was a water supply worker when he won the Euromillions prize with his partner, Katie Sullivan, on 5 May 2020.The couple were pictured spraying champagne in celebration while holding their giant cheque, and Canty vowed not to give up his day job.Police said anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage of the collision should get in touch.Do you have a story suggestion for Essex?
