'End this nightmare': Wife of ailing Briton jailed in Saudi Arabia appeals for releaseImage source, Family handoutImage caption, Ahmed Al-Doush was imprisoned when his wife gave birth to their fourth childByCaroline HawleyDiplomatic correspondentPublished2 minutes agoAmaher Nour breaks down in tears thinking of the husband she hasn't seen for almost two years, and the impact his absence has had on her four children.Ahmed Al-Doush, a British business analyst from Manchester, has been in jail in Saudi Arabia since August 2024, apparently over a handful of social media posts dating back several years.The human rights group Amnesty International, which is campaigning for his release, says he was convicted in an unfair trial on charges which violate his right to freedom of expression.Al-Doush and his family had been visiting Nour's brother when he was arrested at Riyadh airport as he was returning home with his pregnant wife and three children."[Our children] ask about their dad all the time," Nour tells me. "I tell them that he's away working because I don't want to say that he's in prison, as they're old enough to know that prison is a place where you go if you've done something bad. And he's done nothing wrong."She says she doesn't know exactly why the 44-year-old is being held, but she knows - from the phone calls he is allowed - that he is struggling mentally."His voice is often unrecognisable, he is fatigued and confused why the British government aren't doing more to get him home safely," she says.
