Manchester City secured their fifth FA Youth Cup triumph after Reigan Heskey struck a decisive late goal to defeat fierce rivals Manchester United in a dramatic final.

The son of former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey fired home with just five minutes remaining, settling a contest that had appeared destined for extra time.

Oliver Reiss's young side claimed victory at the Joie Stadium, recreating the outcome from four decades earlier when City also overcame United in a two-legged final.

For Darren Fletcher's United, who hold the record with 11 titles in this competition, the defeat extends their wait for silverware since their 2022 success against Nottingham Forest.

The match burst into life shortly before the interval when Floyd Samba unleashed a stunning 25-yard free-kick that flew into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes with no chance of making a save.

United responded almost immediately, drawing level within two minutes as centre-back Godwill Kukonki embarked on an impressive run forward before powering a header past the City keeper from Jim Thwaites' delivery.
