Gordon, the 25-year-old England international, has been attracting interest from leading clubs in England and Europe, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea, and is open to moving from St James’ Park. Newcastle expect to be able to make a substantial profit on the £40million ($54m), plus £5m in add-ons, they paid Everton for the forward in January 2023. Gordon missed Newcastle’s defeats to Bournemouth and Arsenal last month with a minor hip injury but has been an unused substituted in their last two matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest. After the Forest match, Howe told BBC Newcastle that not selecting Gordon for the second week running was because he is “looking at the future,” and he doubled down on that statement in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s home game against West Ham United. Asked if he was not picking Gordon because of doubts about his long-term position on Tyneside, Howe told reporters: “When you get to this stage of the season, part of what we will be doing is looking to next year, naturally. “Anthony’s just come back from injury. I think the team has played well in his absence and (it is) with a partial view to the future, yes.” Could Howe provide any update on speculation regarding Gordon leaving? “No updates from me,” he said. “These are discussions that potentially might be happening, not with me.” Centre-half Fabian Schar has not played for Newcastle since January after sustaining a foot injury and subsequent infection. The 34-year-old is out of contract this summer and is likely to have made his final appearance for the club. “He’s had a difficult season with his injury but we will have discussions with him and his representatives in the next week,” Howe said.
