By ASHLEY NICKEL, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 09:06, 24 May 2026 | Updated: 09:15, 24 May 2026 An alleged drunk driver had a sobering experience after getting behind the wheel while more than twice over the legal alcohol limit. Jaw-dropping images released from South Australian Police show a large wooden pole piercing the windscreen of a 32-year-old woman's car after she crashed at the Esplanade at Aldinga Beach, in Adelaide's south, early on Sunday morning. Emergency services were called to the beach at 12.30am following reports a Mazda sedan had collided with a guard rail, run off the road and plunged onto the sand. The driver, a local woman, miraculously wasn't injured. The pole hit the passenger seat side of the vehicle and she was alone in the car. The woman submitted to a breath test and allegedly recorded a positive result of 0.110, which is more than twice the legal alcohol limit. The 32-year-old was given a six-month instant loss of licence by police and she was charged with drink driving and driving without due care, requiring her to appear in court at a later date. Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. SA Police asked reporters to quote the reference number 136532.
