Dr Meghan Rossi, widely known as the Gut Health Doctor, has built a reputation for her knowledge in health and nutrition.On Instagram, where she boasts nearly 600,000 followers, she addressed the issue of fibre consumption. Current figures reveal that more than 90 per cent of Britons fall short of their daily fibre requirements.More concerningly, just 7 per cent of Brits are aware that the target is 30g of fibre daily, with most believing the figure sits around 12.4g. Back in 2015, the UK Government increased its recommended fibre intake guidelines from 24g to 30g.The typical Brit consumes merely 16g of fibre per day, with only 4 per cent meeting the daily target. Adequate fibre consumption is linked to reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer.Content cannot be displayed without consentYou would be forgiven for assuming that simply increasing your daily fruit and vegetable intake would address the issue - but Dr Rossi insists more consideration is required. She said: "It's not just about eating more plants."Different plants pack very different amounts of fibre.
