Donald Trump's wild 24 hours with dementia test demand and very vain admissionEverything that's happened in Trumpworld in the last 24 hours that you might have missed - including a curious moment of honesty in the Oval OfficeNewsopinionMikey Smith Deputy Political Editor21:44, 30 Apr 2026Updated 21:44, 30 Apr 2026View 3 Images(Image: AP) Donald Trump has a habit of calling people he doesn't like "low IQ" people. But only some people. ‌ Today, he referred to Democrat minority leader Hakeem Jeffries by that particular slur, over his comments regarding a particularly troubling Supreme Court verdict, which you can read about below. Others who've been branded "low IQ" by Trump include Representative Maxine Waters, former Vice President Kamala Harris, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Congresswomen Jasmine Crockett, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. Of the 20 or so people we've found who he's referred to as "Low IQ", just 7 of them are white. The website Truthout today found 8 in 10 of the Truth Social posts in which Trump referred to someone as "Low IQ" were targeting a person of colour. I only mention it because today he suggested Barack Obama should have had to take a "cognitive test" before he stood for President, and applauded a Supreme Court ruling that hollows out a 40-year-old law that prevented states from making it harder for black people to get elected. ‌ You may draw your own conclusions. ‌ Meanwhile in Trumpworld Trump won't be wearing a bulletproof vestHe's considering pulling troops out of more European countriesHe gave James Comey's lawyers a freebieHe thinks presidential candidates should have to take a dementia testHe fumed as his vaccine skeptic Surgeon General pick got torpedoedAnd he replaced her with a Fox News contributorHere's what you need to know ‌ 1. Trump won't be wearing a bulletproof vestTrump was asked if there were any changes planned for his personal security - particularly if he was going to start wearing a bulletproof vest. Trump pooh poohed this idea, saying: "I don't know if I can handle looking 20 pounds heavier." A rare moment of honesty. ‌ Content cannot be displayed without consent2. Trump threatens to pull troops out of Italy and Spain as well as GermanyTrump has been in a very public spat with Chancellor Friedrich Merz - after the German leader said the US was being "humiliated" in the Iran war. In response, Trump has been threatening to pull US troops out of Germany - which would have serious security implications for Europe. Well, today a very grumpy looking Donald Trump was asked in the Oval Office whether he was going to do the same with Italy and Spain, after they were less than cooperative in the conflict. "Yeah, probably," he said. "Why shouldn't I? Italy has not been of any help to us, and Spain has been horrible." 3. Trump gives James Comey's defence lawyers a freebieEx-FBI Director and Trump nemesis James Comey's defence lawyers are expected to argue against the nonsense indictment against him on "vindictive prosecution". And they probably won't have much trouble making that stick. The indictment relates to was a photo of a beach with "86 47" written using seashells, which Comey posted on Instagram last year. The FBI and Justice Department claim that "86" in this context didn't just mean "remove or expel", as most people understand it, but actually to kill, something Comey has always denied. It's the second time Trump's Justice Department has tried to indict Comey, after similarly frivolous charges of lying to congress crashed and burned last year. ‌ View 3 ImagesThe post that Comey has been indicted over(Image: comey/Instagram) And as if it weren't transparent enough that this was a case of judicial harassment, Trump keeps posting things like this on Truth Social: ""86" is a mob term for "kill him." They say 86 him! 86 47 means "kill President Trump. James Comey, who is a Dirty Cop, one of the worst, knows this full well! EIGHT MILES OUT, SIX FEET DOWN! Didn't he also lie to the FBI about this??? I think so! President DJT" For the record, Trump is wrong on this. The term "86" is not widely used in mob-talk, in the movies or in real life. In fact, ABC News did a search of scripts from the American Film Institute's top 10 gangster films, which found no trace of the phrase being used. It's possible Trump is getting it confused with "deep six", which is a common mob trope, meaning to destroy or dispose of something irretrievably. But even that isn't usually used as slang for murder. ‌ 4. Trump demands people running for President take "cognitive tests"Also in Trump's flurry of Truth Social posts this afternoon was this absolute gem. "Anybody running for President or Vice President should be forced to take a Cognitive Examination prior to entering the Race!" He went on to brag that he'd taken the test "three times during my ("THREE!") Terms as President, and ACED IT ALL THREE TIMES -- An Achievement that, even on a single Exam, according to the Doctors, has rarely been done before!" What he didn't mention - and what his doctors apparently didn't have the heart to tell him - is that the "cognitive test" his doctors keep giving him - which from how he's described it is the Montreal Cognitive Assessment is most frequently used to check for early signs of dementia in the elderly. It stands to reason that Trump, being the most elderly President of all time, would be asked to take the test from time to time. He also claimed: "By doing so, we wouldn't be surprised at people like Barack "Hussein" Obama, or Sleepy Joe Biden, getting "ELECTED." Our Country would be a much better place!" I'm not sure which bit of this is my favourite, the suggestion that Barack Obama, a man who was in his late 40s when elected, might have been at risk of dementia, or the quotes around "ELECTED". ‌ View 3 ImagesDonald Trump was the oldest person ever to take the oath of office(Image: AFP via Getty Images) 5. Trump fumes as "MAHA" surgeon general pick gets torpedoedTrump fumed on Truth Social after he was forced to pull his pick for Surgeon General - Casey Means - after her confirmation stalled in the Senate. Means, a dietitian, wellness influencer and darling of RFK JR's rampantly anti-science "MAHA" movement, had hit the rocks in the process, in part, because she stopped short of recommending vaccines against measles and influenza in her confirmation hearings. Trump lashed out at Bill Cassidy, who chairs the Senate Health Committee. He wrote: "For months, Senator Bill Cassidy (of the GREAT State of Louisiana!), a very disloyal person whose "TRUMP" Endorsement got him elected, but later voted to impeach "President Trump" on what has now proven to be a total Hoax and Scam, has stood in the way of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Nominee, Casey Means, for the important position of U.S. Surgeon General. I nominated Casey, a strong MAHA Warrior, at the recommendation of Secretary Kennedy, who understands the MAHA Movement better than anyone, with perhaps the possible exception of ME! Nevertheless, despite Senator Cassidy's intransigence and political games, Casey will continue to fight for MAHA on the many important Health issues facing our Country, such as the rising childhood disease epidemic, increased autism rates, poor nutrition, over-medicalization, and researching the root causes of infertility, and many other difficult medical problems. Casey, thank you for your service to our Nation! President DONALD J. TRUMP" He went on: "Hopefully all of the Great Republican People of Louisiana, which I won, BIG, three times, will be voting Bill Cassidy OUT OF OFFICE in the upcoming Republican Primary! President DONALD J. TRUMP" ‌ 6. He replaces her with a Fox News contributorBecause of course he does. Moments after pulling Means' nomination, Trump wrote: "I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Dr. Nicole B. Saphier to be the next SURGEON GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Nicole is a STAR physician who has spent her career guiding women facing breast cancer through their diagnosis and treatment while tirelessly advocating to increase early cancer detection and prevention, while at the same time working with men and women on all other forms of cancer diagnoses and treatments. She is also an INCREDIBLE COMMUNICATOR, who makes complicated health issues more easily understood by all Americans." That "INCREDIBLE" communication is done, for the most part, on Fox News, where she's signed up as a contributor. 7. Slow clap for the Supreme Court for winding back 40 years of progress on racism in politicsThe Supreme Court did a bad thing yesterday, and it takes a bit of explaining, but it's important. So back in 1965 President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act (VRA) into law - which said states aren't allowed to discriminate on the basis of race when it comes to elections. One of the reasons it was introduced was to prevent racist state governments from redrawing constituency boundaries to slice up areas where a lot of black people live - something that was happening at the time, and which made it incredibly difficult for people of colour to get elected to Congress. This, they called 'racial gerrymandering'. The VRA gave courts the power to strike down maps like this, crucially, without having to prove a state intended to discriminate - only that the result was discriminatory. ‌ Fast forward to today, and a row over Louisiana's voting map. The state drew a map that civil rights groups challenged under the VRA, saying it diluted the voting power of black people in the state. The courts agreed, and told the State to re-draw the map and add a second black-majority district in Louisiana. Then it got confusing, because that second map was then challenged by Republicans, who argued that adding a district because of race was, itself, unconstitutional. This made it all the way to the Supreme Court yesterday - and the conservative 6-3 majority on the court decided the second map was unconstitutional. But that doesn't just affect the Louisiana map, it re-writes the legal test for the VRA. The court basically ruled that a map is only illegal if you can prove the state intended to discriminate. This effectively hollows out the Voting Rights Act and makes it much harder to challenge ropey attempts to lock minorities out of politics. Now let's all sit back and watch Republicans in Southern states redraw their maps just in time for 2028. 8. Trump is obviously delightedTrump was tickled pink when the decision was revealed to him in the Oval Office yesterday. And since then he's been crowing about it on Truth Social. "Today's 6-3 Supreme Court decision in the Callais case is a BIG WIN for Equal Protection under the Law, as it returns the Voting Rights Act to its Original Intent, which was to protect against intentional Racial Discrimination," he wrote. "Thank you to brilliant Justice Samuel Alito for authoring this important and appropriate Opinion. Congratulations! President DONALD J. TRUMP" Article continues below
