An albino buffalo in Narayanganj, near Dhaka, became an internet sensation after its remarkable resemblance to the President.
The animal was set to be slaughtered for Eid al-Adha, known as the "Festival of Sacrifice" and one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar.
But the 750-kilogram cow has now been saved after invention from Bangladesh's home ministry, citing security concerns.
TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SayHome Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has ordered the buffalo be spared, the buyer refunded, and the animal moved to a national zoo in Dhaka.
A ministry official said: "At the last moment, the decision was taken to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and the unusual level of public interest."
After the buffalo was bid farewell from the farm with a red carpet, colored smoke, and royal attire, a police officer arrived at the home of the man who bought it.
The officer - who was not named - told Bangladesh's Prothom Alo the order "came from above" that the buffalo must not be sacrificed.
"They asked us to take it to the police station for now," the officer added.
The buffalo will next be brought to the Bangladesh National Zoo in Dhaka.
Curator of the zoo, Dr Atiqur Rahman, said preparations had already been made for the animal's arrival.
He said: "Arrangements have been made to spray disinfectant at the main gate and keep it in a large shed. The buffalo will be kept in quarantine for two weeks. It will be tested to see if it has any disease."

His owner Zia Uddin Mridha, 38, said fans had inundated the farm in order to taken pictures with the animal.
He said: "My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head.
"It is very calm in nature. Albino buffaloes are generally peaceful and do not become aggressive unless provoked."
One visitor to the farm said: "Truly, the features are similar between the buffalo and President Donald Trump."
The animal is now owned directly by the Home Minister, until it can be safely relocated to the zoo.
Another buffalo in the area was nicknamed "Benjamin Netanyahu" due to his aggressive and "combative" attitude.
A manager at the cattle farm is understood to have said: "Netanyahu is very naughty and has a devious intelligence.
"Even when we go to feed it, it snorts and tries to gore us."
