By CHASE HOPE, POLITICAL REPORTER FOR THE DAILY MAIL Published: 18:04, 11 June 2026 | Updated: 18:19, 11 June 2026 DC Metropolitan police have rushed to another reported hazmat-type incident outside George Washington University, less than two and a half miles from the Pentagon. An MPD spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Mail that they were investigating a 'suspicious package' at the corner of 23rd Street and I Street NW, just outside GWU's Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library. The department responded to a call shortly before 11am, and two hours later the police were still blocking the intersection and asking civilians to avoid the area.  The department spokesperson said there was no evidence to link this incident to any other incident. Earlier Thursday, parts of the Pentagon building were locked down as the Arlington County Fire Department rushed its hazmat response team to the site and Pentagon employees were ordered to shelter in place during air-quality tests.  Firefighters in full protective clothing, including gas masks, were seen rushing inside the building in Arlington, Virginia. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that 'an air quality issue' had been detected, sparking 'precautionary measures until we determine its significance.'  The lockdown was due to a false alarm, sources later told CNN, but the Pentagon Force Protection Agency confirmed that a shelter-in-place was still in effect shortly before 12:30pm.  A street view of the 23rd Street and I Street Northwest intersection The comments below have not been moderated.
