Congresswoman, 80, taken to hospital after hit-and-run accident in Ohio

Marcy Kaptur, 80, was injured after a car she was a passenger in was struck by another vehicle just before 11am on Sunday, her office said.  The Democrat has been recognized as the longest-serving woman in congressional history in 2023 after serving in her role since 1983.  A black Ford Bronco and a silver sedan were involved in the collision, The Toledo Blade reported.  The Bronco was left with its airbags deployed and a flat tire, while the sedan was crushed in the front and left facing the wrong way on the road, the outlet stated.  An engine also appeared to be lying on the side of the road following the incident, according to the outlet.  The sedan was a stolen vehicle, and the person driving it fled the scene and remains at large, authorities said, per the report.  The extent of Kaptur's injuries remains unknown, but Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said 'everyone seems to be fine,' the report stated.  U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, 80, was rushed to the hospital on Sunday after she was involved in a hit-and-run car crash in Toledo, Ohio Kaptur was 'active, alert, and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries,' her office said in an afternoon statement.  According to police, two people were taken to a local hospital.  'We look forward to additional information from Toledo Police as they investigate the accident,' the spokesperson said.  'Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash.'  Her office also said that Kaptur 'looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon.'  Morgan Valley, a witness who called 911 after hearing the accident, told the publication that she saw a man running out of the sedan.  Valley described the man to the police, though the details remain unclear.  The House of Representatives is not in session currently.
