Clashes erupt at 'Great Israeli Real Estate' event in New York
ALBAWABA - The Park East Synagogue on the Upper East Side in New York City has organized an event called "Great Israeli Real Estate" on Tuesday to purchase lands in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Great Israeli Real Estate Event advertises its services in assisting interested people in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. to purchase real estate in Israel and the West Bank.
Yesterday, the event was hosted at Park East Synagogue in Manhattan's Upper East Side and the goal of the event was to help potential buyers calculate taxes, educational information, and other matters that arise during relocation to Israel.
"Stop The Sale of Stolen Land"
The event prompted a protest by Pro-Palestinian organizations, who say the event will involve the sale of stolen Palestinian land.
Pro-Palestinian protesters rallied against the event and clashed with Pro-Israelis. Additionally, before the event, the NYC Mayor opposed the "Great Israeli Real Estate" event, which promotes sales of land in Israel and the occupied territories.
“Mayor Mamdani is deeply opposed to the real estate expo this evening that includes the promotion of the sale of land in settlements in the Occupied West Bank,” Sam Raskin, a spokesperson for Mamdani, told The Intercept.
"These settlements are illegal under international law and deeply tied to the ongoing displacement of Palestinians," he added.
It is worth mentioning that the official website for the real estate expo includes lands in Gush Etzion, which consists of 20 settlements in the West Bank, southeast of Jerusalem, that are considered illegal under international law.
