By CAITLIN POWELL - NEWS REPORTER Published: 06:16, 11 July 2026 | Updated: 06:16, 11 July 2026 A 13-year-old Queensland boy has been charged with plotting to kill primary school children using items he bought from Temu after allegedly creating 'massacre stories' using artificial intelligence.  The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, visited a BP service station on Saltwater Creek Road in Maryborough, three hours north of Brisbane, on May 28 wearing a face mask and carrying a knife, court documents reveal. Police allege he threatened to stab a service station employee before officers arrived and arrested him. The boy was interviewed by police, during which he claimed 'he had wanted to kill people for months', according to the documents from a bail application hearing. He told officers he was inspired by a Russian school stabber and other school shooters and mass murders who targeted schools, the court heard. He also allegedly told police he had purchased items from Temu and 'attended the service station in order to kill children who he thought were easy targets'. The documents reveal the boy told police he tried to steal a vehicle so he could drive to a primary school and execute his alleged plan after learning there were no children at the service station. The teenager was released with a caution but, two days later, a counter-terrorism investigation was launched and he was charged in June with two extremism-related offences.  A 13-year-old boy in Queensland has been charged with two extremism offences (stock image) He allegedly used AI to generate a note titled 'The Albert Massacre' in 2024, which police believe referred to Albert State School in Maryborough, a court has been told When police searched the boy's home, they allegedly found a video of the Christchurch terrorist attack, the court was told.  He also told police he had an 'adrenaline rush' watching people fear death and killings connected to ideologies, and that he held 'neo-Nazi white supremacy views'. The documents reveal he told officers he 'holds disdain for people of dark-coloured skin, Jewish people and Muslims' and had read the manifestos by infamous mass killers. He allegedly told police he had wanted to kill people for the 'last few months' and had used the dark web in an attempt to source firearms from illegal weapons suppliers. The court heard that 11 days before the service station incident, the boy allegedly created an electronic manifesto for a 'would-be violent attack on children and teachers' at 3am in the morning. He wrote in the note that he had a 'feeling to commit a big attack on kids' and he 'might be 13 at this time, but when I'm 18 they will see my wrath', the court heard. Just over two years earlier, the boy used AI to generate a note titled 'The Albert Massacre' on April 1, 2024, which police believe referred to Albert State School in Maryborough, the court was told. The teenager had also allegedly used AI in April to generate what police described as 'mass shooting stories', the court was told in an affidavit. Police alleged in court that he used AI to create a 'mass shooting story' in which the gunman was based on Russian shooter Vladislav Roslyakov The boy requested one story be 'kinda like the Bondi beach shooting but it's in Queensland heavybay (sic) beach when there is a Jewish and black festival', the court heard. He wrote that the shooter should be a European legal immigrant with 'dark messy hair, good looking, sharp jawline, tall and skinny' like Vladislav Roslyakov, the teenager responsible for a school attack in Russia in 2018 that left 19 people dead and more than 50 injured. 'The POVs [point of views] are just normal Australians on the beach, and more he also is neo Nazi,' the boy wrote into the AI generator, the court was told. Following investigations, the boy was charged with one count each of preparation or planning to cause death or grievous bodily harm and possessing or controlling violent extremist material obtained or accessed using a carriage of service. A magistrate refused the boy bail but defence barrister Clem van der Weegen brought a bail application to the Supreme Court this week. Mr van der Weegen argued his client's writing was 'just dark thoughts'. He said there is no offence of being charged for thoughts alone and argued there was no evidence his client had communicated those thoughts to anyone else.  'Mr van der Weegen argued that the applicant had been cautioned under section 15 of the Youth Justice Act for the offences for which bail is now sought and that the continued prosecution of the applicant was duplicitous and an abuse of process,' the documents noted. The boy was brought to police's attention after visited a BP service station in Maryborough, three hours north of Brisbane, on May 28 wearing a face mask and carrying a knife (Pictured, a generic BP servcie station in Sydney) But Justice Peter Davis upheld the decision to refuse bail on Wednesday.  'The proposed bail order provides that the applicant's address will be his family home,' the justice said in his decision. 'It is in this residence that the applicant became a radicalised recluse. 'He has [allegedly] threatened to assault and kill his mother … [police allege] he has thought about harming his sister by smothering her with a pillow.' Justice Davis also noted that the boy 'seems obsessed with mass killings'. 'He has radical and violent views which he at least put into operation by going to the service station,' he said in his decision. 'The risk of harm to the public justifies refusal of bail.' The boy was involuntarily admitted to Children’s Hospital Brisbane on June 4 under the Mental Health Act and remains there. He is next due to appear in court in September.  Sorry we are not currently accepting comments on this article.
