Emergency services were called to the blaze on Newbury Street in Werribee just after midnight on Monday morning, following reports that multiple children were trapped inside a burning house. 'Sadly, a resident of the home died at the scene, and a second resident remains in hospital with serious injuries,' Senior Constable Paul Hogan said on ABC radio. Police said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with an arson chemist expected to examine the scene.  Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
