Bryson DeChambeau has tried out a new putter as the LIV Golf star teed off at the PGA Championship.

The American is looking to win his first-ever at Aronimink, having won two previous majors with US Opens in 2020 and 2024.

He comes into this tournament full of hope, having finished twice in his previous couple of attempts.

Ahead of his opening round, DeChambeau took to his YouTube channel, where he tried to break the course record at a public golf course on his first try.

When he stepped up to the second green, the golfing star admitted to trying out a new putter.

He said: "Got a new putter in the bag right now.

"New shaft. Trying just shafts in there. So hopefully it stabilises it more.

"May not, you never know. But it feels good from all my testing I've done so far. But feel versus real is a whole thing."

DeChambeau has teed off at Aronimink alongside Ludvig Aberg and Rickie Fowler.

Ahead of the competition, the American outlined his contingency strategy should LIV Golf cease operations following Saudi Arabia's decision to withdraw its substantial financial backing at the end of this year.

The American golfer revealed his intentions ahead of this week's LIV event at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C.

"I think, from my perspective, I'd love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more," DeChambeau told ESPN.

"I'd love to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages, giving the world more reason to watch YouTube. And then I'd love to play tournaments that want me."

The 32-year-old's channel currently boasts 2.7 million subscribers.

DeChambeau confirmed that he has been in discussions with the PGA Tour regarding a potential comeback, though he anticipates facing significant consequences.

The two-time US Open champion joined LIV Golf in June 2022 and was among 11 players who launched legal action against the PGA Tour later that year, alleging the organisation had unfairly suspended defectors through monopoly power. He withdrew from the lawsuit in May 2023.

"Quite unfortunate in my opinion, considering what I could do for them," DeChambeau said of any prospective punishment.

He declined an opportunity to rejoin the PGA Tour earlier this year through a returning member programme, with only Brooks Koepka accepting that offer.

DeChambeau admitted he was "completely shocked" by the Public Investment Fund's announcement, having understood that Saudi backing would remain in place until 2032.

"I haven't had any communication. And unfortunately, things are moving on in a different direction. Obviously, they wanted to move on," he said.

The golfer's LIV contract expires at the conclusion of this season, and reports suggest he had been seeking a new deal worth $500 million before the funding withdrawal was announced.
