Brazen woman, 21, is arrested for stealing $21k of Ralph Lauren clothes from ritzy Hamptons store before escaping police in dramatic ROOFTOP chase

By WILL POTTER, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 21:05, 4 June 2026 | Updated: 21:29, 4 June 2026 A 21-year-old woman allegedly stole over $21,000 worth of designer Ralph Lauren clothes before making a dramatic rooftop escape from police.  Ruth Rosario was arrested May 22 after she allegedly looted the luxury store in East Hampton, New York in a chaotic stealing spree.  Police said Rosario stole a fire extinguisher from a nearby store and used it to smash into the Ralph Lauren location's windows and ransacking the inside.  She allegedly stole a trove of luxury items before making her escape, but was caught on numerous surveillance cameras walking back to her apartment, according to the East Hampton Press.  When officers arrived at her apartment soon after, she allegedly attempted to flee by climbing out of a second-story rooftop and onto a nearby rooftop.  Officers used a drone to follow her across the rooftops, and Rosario was eventually arrested.  The suspect, from the New York City borough of Williamsburg, is now facing a raft of charges including burglary, criminal mischief, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and possession of a weapon.  Ruth Rosario, 21, allegedly stole over $21,000 worth of designer Ralph Lauren clothes from a store (pictured) in East Hampton, New York before making a dramatic rooftop escape from police Rosario allegedly jumped from a second-story window and onto rooftops along the high street in East Hampton (seen in a stock image), one of the most affluent areas of Long Island Police said Rosario broke into the Ralph Lauren store late at night, and workers arrived the next morning to find the store had been smashed.  When officers searched Rosario's apartment, they allegedly found a large amount of stolen designer merchandise, as well as brass knuckles.  Rosario was arraigned in court on Saturday, and although her charges in East Hampton are not eligible to have a bail set, authorities said her custody was escalated because she has other open criminal cases.  Authorities said Rosario has at least three other open cases in Brooklyn from earlier this year, including two felony burglary charges.  The mounting legal cases against Rosario led a judge to hit her with a bail of $2,500.  She was moved to Yaphank Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.   No comments have so far been submitted.
