The crash between a silver Volkswagen Polo and the boy, who was riding a scooter, took place at around 4pm on Wednesday in, Hanley, Stoke. Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were scrambled to the scene and the child was airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Police said on Thursday the boy remains in a serious but stable condition. The force has also issued an appeal for witnesses.   A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: 'We are appealing for information following a serious collision in Stoke-on-Trent involving a child. 'We were called at around 4pm on Wednesday (22 April) to Commercial Road, Hanley, following reports of a collision involving a silver Volkswagen Polo and a seven-year-old boy, who was riding a scooter. 'The child was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were scrambled to the scene and the child was airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital 'Officers spoke to a number of people at the scene at the time of the incident and carried out initial enquiries. 'We are now asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage and has not yet spoken to a police officer to get in touch. 'The road was closed for a period while emergency services dealt with the incident and to allow officers to carry out enquiries. The road reopened at around 8.45pm. 'Anyone with information is asked to call us on 101, use Live Chat on our website, or email collision investigators at ciu@staffordshire.police.uk, quoting incident number 521 of 22 April.'
