Boy, 7, airlifted to hospital after being hit by car while riding scooter on road

A young boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car. The seven-year-old was riding his scooter on the road when he was reportedly struck by a car at about 4pm on Wednesday, April 22. Emergency services rushed to the scene at Commercial Road in Hanley, Staffordshire. Police said that the driver of the car remained at the scene. The boy remains in a serious but stable condition at the hospital . A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “We are appealing for information following a serious collision in Stoke-on-Trent involving a child." “We were called at around 4pm on Wednesday (22 April) to Commercial Road, Hanley, following reports of a collision involving a silver Volkswagen Polo and a seven-year-old boy, who was riding a scooter." Police spoke to people at the scene at the time of the incident and carried out initial enquiries. “We are now asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage and has not yet spoken to a police officer to get in touch," the Staffordshire Police spokesperson said. The road was closed while emergency services responded to the incident and officers carried out enquiries and opened later in the day at around 8.45pm.
