By SHANNON MCGUIGAN, NEWS REPORTER Published: 16:40, 6 June 2026 | Updated: 16:42, 6 June 2026 A 17-year-old boy has had his leg amputated after a stabbing at Barry Island on Bank Holiday Monday. Emergency services and an air ambulance arrived at the popular coastal resort amid reports a teenager had been 'stabbed in the leg' earlier this week. The incident transpired over the Whitsun bank holiday weekend while the beach was filled with tourists. Initially, the teenager's leg injury was not believed to be life threatening or life changing. However, the 17-year-old from Cardiff has since had to undergo an amputation and remains in critical care at the University Hospital of Wales, South Wales Police said. The force has since charged Iris Ahmed, 18, with wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article in a public place in relation to the incident. Ahmed appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court this morning, where he spoke only to confirm his address, date of birth and name. Angharad Jones, prosecuting, described it as a serious incident where the victim suffered a stab wound to his leg, resulting in amputation. She added the 17-year-old suffered life-changing injuries due to a 'highly dangerous weapon'.
