Belçika Başbakan Yardımcısı ve Dışişleri, Avrupa İşleri ve Kalkınma İşbirliği Bakanı Maxime Prevot, Dış Ekonomik İlişkiler Kurulu (DEİK) tarafından düzenlenen Türkiye-Belçika İş Forumu'nda yaptığı konuşmada, bölgenin çok iyi bilinen Türk misafirperverliğiyle sıcak bir şekilde karşılandıklarını kaydederek, tüm heyet adına Türkçe teşekkür etti. Belçika'nın Türkiye'ye yönelik düzenlediği "Ekonomik Misyon" programının benzerinin 40 yıl önce düzenlediğini hatırlatan ve ziyarete Kraliçe Mathilde'nin liderlik etmesinin iki ülke ilişkilerinin önemini vurguladığını aktaran Prevot, "Türkiye-Belçika ilişkileri uzun soluklu, neredeyse iki asırlık siyasi, ekonomik ve diplomatik işbirliğine dayanıyor." diye konuştu. Prevot, ikili ilişkilerin, kurumların ve anlaşmaların ötesinde iki ülkenin ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel yaşama katkıda bulunan vatandaşlarına dayandığını belirterek, "Onlar bu ortaklığın yaşayan bağıdır ve diğer her şey de işte bu bağın üzerine kurulu." ifadesini kullandı. Bu bağlamda Türkiye'nin yenilikçi, etkileyici ve rekabetçi bir ekosistemi bulunduğuna işaret eden Prevot, limanlar, lojistik, ulaşım, yaşam bilimleri, tıbbi ürünler, biyoteknoloji, dijital dönüşüm ve sanayi gibi sektörlerdeki işbirliği imkanlarına değindi. Prevot, "Bu sektörler Türkiye'nin stratejik önceliklerini yansıtıyor. Aynı zamanda bu sektörler Belçikalı şirketlerin uzmanlığını, yenilikçiliğini ve bilgisini ortaya koyduğu alanlarla da tam örtüşüyor. İki ülke arasındaki ekonomik ilişkiler halihazırda çok güçlü" şeklinde konuştu. Belçikalı şirketlerin Türkiye'de yaptığı yatırımlardan bahseden Prevot, Türk şirketlerin de Belçika'ya yatırım yapmaya başlamasından memnuniyet duyduklarını ve bu yatırımların istihdam sağladığını anlattı. Belçika Başbakan Yardımcısı Prevot, gelecek sene Ortak Ekonomi ve Ticaret Komisyonu'nun yeni bir faslını başlatacaklarına değinerek, bunun ekonomik vizyonun olumlu ivmesini daha da geliştirmek için büyük bir fırsat olacağını söyledi. Söz konusu ekonomik işbirliğinin güçlü, olgun ve her iki taraf için de oldukça dinamik bir yapıya sahip olduğunu ve bunun büyük önem arz ettiğini anlatan Prevot, Gümrük Birliğinin bu ekonomik ortaklığı desteklediğini ve son 30 yıldır Türk sanayisini Avrupa'daki zincirlere bağladığını ifade etti. Ticaretin, bu hikayenin "yalnızca bir bölümünü" oluşturduğunun altını çizen Prevot, araştırma, inovasyon ve teknoloji alanlarında büyük potansiyel taşıyan işbirliği imkanının henüz yeterli düzeyde olmadığını bildirdi. Prevot, Belçika ile Türkiye'nin yaklaşık 300 Horizon Europe (Ufuk Avrupa) projesinde birlikte çalıştığını belirterek, bu durumun Belçika'yı, Türkiye'nin Avrupa'daki en önemli beşinci araştırma ortağı haline getirdiğini söyledi. Türkiye ziyareti kapsamında, bu işbirliğini daha ileri taşımak amacıyla faaliyet gösteren çeşitli kurumları ziyaret edeceklerini hatırlatan Prevot, üst düzey siyasi temaslar, iş dünyası temsilcileri arasındaki görüşmeler ve hükümetler arası toplantılara atıfta bulundu. Prevot, programın aynı zamanda şirket ziyaretlerini ve çeşitli yeni anlaşmaların imzalanmasını da içerdiğini paylaşarak, ziyaretin özellikle küçük ve orta ölçekli işletmelerin Türk ortaklarla doğrudan temas kurmasını sağlayarak pazara erişimi kolaylaştırmak amacıyla planlandığına değindi. Ticaret Bakanı Ömer Bolat'a kabulü için teşekkürlerini sunan Prevot, ziyaretlerinin yeni temasların, ortaklıkların, anlaşmaların ve dostlukların başlangıcı olmasını temenni etti.
