The German side announced the injury in a club statement on Saturday but did not specify a timescale. However, Gnabry, 30, is now a major doubt for the Champions League  semi-final tie against Paris Saint-German, the first leg of which takes place at Parc des Princes on April 28, with the return at Allianz Arena eight days later. The forward will also be expected to be part of Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for the World Cup. There is no guidance yet on whether his participation in the tournament is in jeopardy. Gnabry is enjoying a stellar season for Bayern, having scored eight goals and provided six assists in 21 Bundesliga appearances. He has also been a pivotal figure in the club’s Champions League progress, starting both legs of the quarter-final win over Real Madrid and accumulating two assists and five goals across the duration of the tournament. Bayern are in sight of a treble this season, the first component of which could be clinched as early as Sunday. A draw with Stuttgart in Munich will be enough to confirm them as Bundesliga champions. They will face Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal, the German cup, next Wednesday, another game for which they will now be without Gnabry. Germany begin their 2026 World Cup group stage campaign against Curacao on June 14. Gnabry has been capped 59 times at senior international level, scoring 26 goals. The real damage is to Bayern’s continuity. Vincent Kompany’s record-breaking attack (which has scored 105 goals in the league this season, the most in the competition’s history) has had so much chemistry this season and looked so fluid, that removing any member of the front four — be it Gnabry, Luis Diaz, Michael Olise or Harry Kane — would have a profound effect. Kompany has Jamal Musiala in reserve, which will soften the blow of this injury, but Gnabry’s direct running from deep, as well as his under-valued creative play, cannot be easily replicated. Musiala on form is a brilliant player, absolutely one of the best in the world, but he is not the same; Kompany and Bayern will need to tweak smartly if they are to remain in stride as the games that will define their season approach. The situation for Germany is potentially less serious. Nagelsmann’s first-choice front three will be Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, with Gnabry likely to start from the bench. Nevertheless, with 59 caps for his country, he is an enormously experienced player with a proven record as a difference-maker at the game’s highest level and someone whom Nagelsmann will be depending upon this summer.
