Barry to face Tellez on Mayer vs Cameron undercard, live on Sky

British boxer Jessica Barry will fight Texan top contender Reina Tellez on the undercard for Mikaela Mayer against Chantelle Cameron on August 29 in Birmingham, live on Sky Sports.

The featherweight bout adds to the UK vs USA lineup for MVP Women 06, and represents a significant step up for Barry (10-1-2, 2 KOs) as she faces former junior Olympian Tellez (13-1-1, 5 KOs) not far from her home city of Coventry.

"I turned down three title fights to be on this card, and this opportunity is going to open every door I have been knocking on," said Jessica Barry.

"MVP are leading the way for female boxing and Sky Sports is the platform in the UK. It is now down to me to give a five-star performance."

The contest is her opponent Tellez's first since going the distance in a defeat to unified world champion Amanda Serrano in January, on a card that also features a fight for Caroline Dubois against American Amelia Moore.

"I respect Jessica Barry for accepting the challenge, but when that bell rings, respect gives way to determination. I'm coming to represent the USA with pride, fight with heart, and leave everything in the ring," Tellez, Barry's opponent said.

"I have plenty of time to get ready for this fight, I'll be on another level. Expect fireworks, expect me to be at my best, I'm coming with everything I got."

Joining the preliminary card will be MVP's new signing Tysie Gallagher, with her opponent confirmed as Welsh super-bantamweight Ashleigh Johnson.

Gallagher (10-2) is the current WBO and Commonwealth champion, and is looking to improve her standing as the IBF's No 5 contender in the world.
