Bakery owner explains the demise of humble British treat as Britons ‘ageing out’ of nostalgia
المصدر: GB News | Source: GB NewsA bakery owner has explained the demise of the humble iced bun, a long-beloved British confectionery.
However, declining demand for the treat has led to it being ditched from shelves across the country.
“It's a hot dog bun with icing on,” Reshmi Bennett, owner of Anges De Sucre bakery, began.
“When you're going to a shop, and you've got an iced bun next to a beautiful, plump, glazed doughnut. Which one are you going to pick? You're going to pick the one that's not a hot dog covered with icing.”
“Fair point. I haven't had a nice iced bun for years,” GB News host Andrew Pierce admitted.
The baker shot back: “Well, that’s why!”
“I know the iced bun is so steeped in nostalgia,” Ms Bennett continued in a more sombre tone.
“But sadly, I think the generation that has that nostalgia, there is no nice way of saying it, but they're ageing out.”
