Avatar: The Legend of Aang artists respond to movie leak
ALBAWABA - Nickelodeon and Paramount's The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender movie was recently leaked across social media, as several platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, were flooded with it.
The leak caused a massive marketing disaster, as The Legend of Aang was set for an October 2026 release, which affected both Paramount and the artists who worked on the highly anticipated movie. The initial leaker claimed on X that Nickelodeon "accidentally emailed" it to them.
By the time of reporting, while copyright is doing its thing by taking down more leakers across the globe, it's proven difficult to get the situation under control as new posts featuring the full film flood social media by the minute.
The leak might have been caused by Paramount's decision to move the highly anticipated movie from a theatrical release to its streaming service, Paramount+, sparking outrage among the franchise's passionate fanbase.

It seems artists who worked on the movie were also affected by the leak. An animator named Julia Schoel took to X and wrote, "We worked on the aang movie for years with the expectation that’d we’d get to celebrate all of our hard work in theaters.. just to see ." They added, "people unceremoniously leak the film and pass our shots around on twitter like candy."
They wrote further down the thread, "I don’t like seeing people use Paramount’s awful decision to remove the movie from theaters to justify leaking it. I totally understand folks not wanting to pay for/support Paramount+, but pirating the movie after its release would have at least been better than this. This is incredibly disrespectful to all of the hard work the artists put in."

Schoel outlined in the end, "but pirating the movie after its release would have at least been better than this. This is incredibly disrespectful to all of the hard work the artists put in."
Anna Gong, another artist who worked on The Legend of Aang, said after they were asked about the leak, "It feels pretty awful. the only reason the movie looks so good is because there was so much passion directed toward making a truly special moment for ATLA." She added, "please support the actual release as well so we can make more movies."
The original post was made so that Gong could promote artwork for new job opportunities in the industry.
