By MATT JONES, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 07:04, 25 April 2026 | Updated: 07:04, 25 April 2026 Aussies are divided after a couple's next-door neighbour complained their 'unbearable' young children were making her life a 'living hell'.  The couple, who live in Pimpama near the Gold Coast, were stunned by the typed note, which asked why their children 'scream so insanely every day'.  'Your wonderful children scream and squeal too loudly all the time,' it began.  'We wake up and fall asleep to their frantic screams, and it's becoming unbearable. 'Please! Could you teach the children to be a little bit quieter?' The neighbour said two men who live in their house do shift work and needed some peace and quiet from the 'daily hell' they were currently experiencing.  The woman who received the note shared a photo of the note on Facebook.  'I just want to know everyone's view on this nasty letter I received at my door from a neighbour who has moved here less than three weeks ago… surely this cannot be real,' she captioned the photo.  Pictured is the typed note received by a woman living on the Gold Coast The post received more than 100 comments from divided Aussies. 'I wouldn't like it if my neighbours' kids or dogs were annoying but that's life. Kids play and dogs bark. So, get over it,' one person wrote. 'I would now be encouraging my kids to play outside along their fence line from 6am to 10pm, making as much noise as possible,' another said.  'I'd make my kids scream louder. The cheek. Turn yourself down, lady,' a third said. But some people said the note-sender was perfectly reasonable. 'It doesn't come across as nasty to me. A polite note advising you that they are shift workers, and asking for a little consideration,' one person said.  'Maybe your kids are super loud and you just can't admit it,' another wrote.  'Screaming kids is the worst noise if you're working shift work, knackered and trying to sleep. Yeah, she could have written it more politely, but you don't need to be offended, just be conscious of how loud they are because obviously it's driving the neighbours crazy,' a third agreed.  The letter writer complained that the kids next door were screaming to the point they made their life a living hell Queensland council noise rules generally prohibit unreasonable, excessive noise that disturbs neighbours, particularly during designated quiet hours of 10pm to 7am. Unlike power tools or air conditioners, which have restricted hours, children's play is not regulated. Councils may issue warnings or fines for consistent nuisance noise.
