At least 27 dead after massive fire breaks out in pub in Bangkok: Shocking footage shows flames bursting from door as revellers flee

Published: 20:44, 12 July 2026 | Updated: 20:57, 12 July 2026 At least 27 people have died after a huge fire engulfed a pub in Bangkok early on Monday morning, officials said. Footage showed the huge blaze raging out of the front door of the building in the northern part of the Thai capital, as a huge black cloud of smoke was sent billowing into the sky.  Rescuers rushed to the scene at around midnight and lined up casualties in a row on the street outside. Firefighters tackled the blaze for around half an hour before bringing it under control.  Photos from the aftermath show the charred remains of tables and chairs and the interior damaged by smoke.  Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at the scene that 27 people died and several have been taken to the hospital.  He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Mr Charnvirakul said a musician who was performing at the pub told him that he saw smoke coming out of a circuit breaker near the stage before the power went out, then an explosion was heard and thick smoke quickly filled the place. Many of the victims were found at the restrooms, at the back of the pub, he added. In 2022, 14 people were killed by a fire at a music pub in the eastern part of the country. And more than a decade before that, 66 people were killed and more than 200 were injured in a fire during a 2009 New Year’s Eve celebration at the Santika nightclub in Thailand's capital. That blaze was said to be sparked by an indoor fireworks display.
