Asha Bhosle dies at 92: Bollywood legend and global music icon passes away

ALBAWABA - Asha Bhosle, legendary Indian singer, dies at 92 in Mumbai.

Asha Bhosle was known for her wide range of styles and the upbeat music she sang in many Bollywood movies, which included genres such as pop, classical, and ghazals, showcasing her versatility as an artist.

Bhosle became famous around the world when she worked with the British singer Boy George. She had been famous in India for generations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Her amazing musical journey spanning decades has added to our cultural heritage and touched many hearts around the world."

During her career, Bhosle was nominated for two Grammys and won the Padma Vibhushan, which is India's second-highest civilian honor, and the Dadasaheb Phalke award, which is India's greatest honor in the arts.

"Whether it was her soulful melodies or lively compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance," Modi wrote about Bhosle in a message on X. Bhosle had a career that lasted eight decades.

She was the younger sister of singer Lata Mangeshkar. Her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle said earlier that Asha Bhosle was taken to a private hospital in Mumbai on Saturday evening because she was sick with a lung infection and exhausted.

People in the arts from all over the world paid tribute to Asha Bhosle, who sang in many Indian languages, such as Marathi and Hindi.

X wrote that Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan's voice has been an important part of Indian cinema and will continue to be heard around the world for many ages to come.

"Her talent that will outlive many" Khan said.

"She gave her songs so much life and personality, and now she's gone," singer Hema Malini said on X.

That she had died, her son Anand Bhosle told the news service ANI. He also said that her funeral would be in Mumbai on Monday.
