Arrest made after Severn Bridge shut in both directions
A man has been arrested after the Severn Bridge was shut in both directions on Thursday evening. Drivers were told to avoid the M48 Severn Bridge on Thursday evening due to a police-led incident. The bridge was shut in both directions for a number of hours, with drivers asked to use the Prince of Wales Bridge instead. Officers were called to reports raising concerns for the safety of an individual on the bridge shrotly before 8pm. Avon and Somerset Police and Gwent Police attended the scene alongside other emergency services. A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said the incident was brought to a safe conclusion at 10.30pm. The bridge reopened at 11pm. A man was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and a racially-aggravated public order offence. He was taken to hospital as a precaution, police added.
