Armed men rob students in college van near Karachi's New Town area
Armed robbers looted a Jinnah Medical and Dental College transport van in Karachi on Thursday morning near Medicare, Karachi while it was picking up a female student, within the jurisdiction of New Town Police Station. According to police, three suspects riding a motorcycle entered the van, pulled out weapons and said, “Assalam-o-Alaikum, ladies and gentlemen. Hand over whatever you have”. Students in the van said the robbers frightened passengers, prompting some to scream. During the incident, the suspects snatched four mobile phones, one student’s bag and another student’s jewellery before fleeing the scene. He also ordered action against the concerned SHO and security personnel deployed in the area. Sindh Police said efforts are underway to identify the suspects based on statements from victims and eyewitnesses, but no arrests have been made so far. Separately, on Wednesday, several drug addicts were rounded up during a grand operation carried out by police in various localities of the Malir district. The crackdown was launched on the directives of IG Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho to protect the younger generation from the menace of drugs.
