Ryan and May Mullin were arrested Sunday evening after a concerned witness spotted them stumbling near State Farm Stadium in Glendale, according to court documents obtained by AZFamily. The family had attended the Cardinals’ Red and White Practice before setting off on foot, May allegedly told police. A woman reported watching the parents struggle across the road with their two children for several hours before deciding to intervene at around 6pm. She claimed Ryan crossed the street without the children and later stumbled into one of them, while May appeared to be vomiting and looked drunk. The witness drove toward the family and offered them a ride, but Ryan allegedly became angry and punched her vehicle. The blow caused him to fall and injure his face, according to the court documents. Ryan allegedly made it clear that he did not want assistance getting the children out of the sweltering heat. When the officer caught up with him, Ryan allegedly grabbed the child by the wrist and refused to release them. Police said Ryan appeared unsteady on his feet and eventually let go only after the officer threatened to use force. May told officers that the family had been walking for approximately three hours since leaving the Cardinals’ open practice. When asked whether the children had enough water, she claimed they had consumed two bottles. However, police reportedly found that one of the bottles was still half full. The temperature outside was 108F at the time, according to police. Police found the family near 91st and Montebello avenues in Glendale at around 6pm Sunday The family had attended the Arizona Cardinals’ Red and White Practice at State Farm Stadium before setting off on foot, police said Officers said both parents smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Ryan and May were each booked into jail on one count of child abuse. Ryan was also booked on three counts of disorderly conduct related to fighting. Both parents were later released on their own recognizance, meaning they were not required to post bail. The children’s ages and conditions were not disclosed. It is also unclear whether they required medical treatment or were placed in the care of Arizona’s Department of Child Safety.
