ALBAWABA - Ariana Grande has once again objected to the use of her music by Donald Trump political team, this time after her 2024 hit “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” appeared in a controversial TikTok post.
The video was shared Thursday by the Team Trump TikTok account and showed Trump walking toward a podium. Text displayed over the footage referenced Grande lyrics from the song, reading, “Me and my truth we sit in silence,” before adding a statement about men having children and competing in women sports.
The post was captioned, “This shouldn’t be controversial! #trump #arianagrande #maga.”
Grande herself appeared in the comments and directly addressed the use of her music.
“Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false,” she wrote.
Her comment was later no longer visible, while the song was subsequently removed from the TikTok. The video now indicates that the sound is unavailable, with reports saying the copyright owner removed the music.
Ariana Grande Has Objected Before
This is not the first time Grande has publicly pushed back against the Trump administration using her music.
In June, the White House used another Grande song, “Bye,” in a TikTok showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detaining people. The post promoted the administration’s immigration policies and used the song as its soundtrack.
Grande responded at the time by asking the administration not to use her music in connection with what she described as “barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.” Her comment was subsequently removed or hidden, and the audio was disabled on the video.
The latest incident therefore marks the second public confrontation between Grande and the Trump administration over her music in roughly two months.
The Song Comes From Eternal Sunshine
“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” was released in 2024 as part of Grande sixth studio album, Eternal Sunshine. The song became one of the most recognizable tracks from the project and its lyrics were directly incorporated into the Team Trump video.
The political post consequently drew attention not only because of its message, but because Grande herself immediately rejected the association between her song and the content.
Grande is also currently in the spotlight for her Eternal Sunshine Tour, adding to the attention surrounding her response.
Grande Joins Other Artists Objecting to Trump Music Use
Grande is not the only major artist to object to her music being used in connection with Trump or his administration.
In recent months, artists including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Katy Perry, Noah Kahan and Bad Bunny have also publicly objected to the use of their songs in political or government social-media posts.
For Grande, however, the repeated use of her music has now prompted two direct public responses in a short period.
Her latest message was particularly blunt, making clear that she does not want her music associated with the political messaging featured in the Team Trump post.
