The 85-year-old veteran broadcaster is facing the first week of a months-long Local Court hearing after he pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of indecent assault and sexual touching without consent. Six men allege Jones indecently assaulted or sexually touched them between 2003 and 2020 at locations across Sydney and the NSW Southern Highlands. None of the complainants can be identified for legal reasons. Jones met one of the men when he was 14 years old and a rising athletic star, Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court was told. The athlete said the former Wallabies coach praised his sporting prowess before giving him a phone, a car and a weekly stipend of up to $600 so he could focus on sport. The man told the court Jones grabbed his genitals while he was driving to the NSW Southern Highlands and squeezed painfully tight, causing him to veer off the road. The assaults continued when the pair arrived at the broadcaster's property in Fitzroy Falls, where Jones gave him unwanted slobbering kisses, the ex-athlete testified during his second day in the witness box on Tuesday. But the former athlete said he wore underpants under the robe because he thought he knew what was going to happen, based on the alleged indecent assault in the car. 'I thought he wanted me to come out in the nude so he could undo my robe, just easy access, he's going to touch me,' the complainant told the court. Jones allegedly scolded the athlete for wearing underpants before groping his genitals on the lounge, stopping when the complainant said he was uncomfortable. When the athlete went to bed, Jones allegedly followed him into the bedroom and hugged him, telling him: 'I love you, mate.' He said the former teacher aggressively squeezed his bottom before kissing him and undoing his own robe so their genitals touched. 'I felt like my heart was going to come out of my chest.' The next day, Jones allegedly acted as if nothing had happened. The man resolved to stand up to the influential broadcaster when he visited Jones's apartment in Sydney at a later date but alleged he instead found himself enduring another unwanted 'chomping' kiss. The former athlete told the court he froze in the moment and was very disappointed and upset with himself for not saying something. 'I didn't think anyone would believe me,' he said. 'I thought if I did stand up to him, I would lose everything.' He was adamant he had not consented to any kisses or sexual conduct with Jones. The former talkback host has been charged with nine offences against the complainant, all of which he denies. His barrister suggested the former athlete may have concocted the allegations against her client, telling the court she would be testing credibility and reliability in cross-examination.
