A man who led a self-styled 'lost African tribe' in a Scottish woodland has been deported, the Home Office has confirmed. Kofi Offeh - who uses the name King Atehene - became locked in a fierce legal battle last year with local residents, police and the local council after setting up camp near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders . Calling themselves the Kingdom of Kubala, the group of three - including one woman he described as his 'Queen', and the other his 'handmaiden' - claimed to be ancient inheritors of the land and descendants of 'Black Jacobites' who were promised the land 400 years ago. They refused to leave the area for around four months, and were evicted in October after a dramatic police raid. Tonight, the Home Office confirmed that Mr Offeh has been deported back to Ghana. It comes after local media showed him arriving at Kotoko international airport in the capital Accra earlier this week. One video reported to have been taken shortly after landing showed him again identifying himself as a "King" and promising a "new wave of the Kingdom of Kubala". He told the camera: "All the police are going to serve me, all the chiefs are going to bow before me, if you have a president, he will have to kneel before me". Mr Offeh, 36, lived at the camp in Scotland with 43-year-old wife Jean Gasho, who called herself "Queen Nandi", and a third member, 21-year-old Kaura "Asnat" Taylor, who told her social media followers she was an "inferior mistress" and a "surrogate for the queen". Ms Taylor, from Dallas, Texas, was released in October after being arrested by immigration enforcement. The Scottish Borders Council originally removed the trio from a privately-owned camp on a hillside overlooking Jedburgh in July. Instead of leaving the area entirely, the group simply relocated roughly a mile outside of town, settling into a patch of woodland next to an industrial estate. After sheriff officers ousted them from their second makeshift camp, they moved on property belonging to the Scottish Borders Council located a few metres away. The council pursued legal action through the courts to remove the 'tribe', who were ultimately evicted last October during a joint early-morning raid carried by police, sheriff officers, and immigration enforcement. All three were seen being led away from the area, with council workers later seen tossing bags filled with blankets, clothing, and food supplies into a bin lorry. Ms Taylor was detained by immigration officers during the raid but was later released, while Ms Gasho (Queen Nandi) left the scene separately in a pickup vehicle.
