AFCON Bonus Dispute Triggers Crisis in Senegal FA

Rabat – The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) is currently fighting on two fronts. While it battles Morocco and CAF at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), it is also navigating an argument over AFCON for control between president Abdoulaye Fall and a group of 16 rebels of the Executive Committee.

The dispute with CAF was just a distraction as the Senegalese Federation is now facing a real internal war over financial disputes, according to Sport News Africa.

This group of 16 executive members, named “bloc of 16,” has officially turned against the president, claiming the federation’s management is opaque and unfair.

Judging from the Sport News Africa report, the core of the dispute involves allegations that the president bypassed collective protocols to distribute performance bonuses at his own will.

The report quotes Senegalese newspaper L’Observateur as indicating that the president approved bonuses of about 13 million CFA francs for certain executives. This caused massive tension, mainly because the money went to officials who weren’t even part of the official team delegation, it explained.

A reputation is now on the line

These selective payouts have left many feeling excluded, with the biggest shock coming when the newspaper L’As revealed that Mayacine Mar, a legendary figure in Senegalese football, was left off the bonus list.

According to Sport News Africa, the federation has a strict rulebook for payments fixing rates for everyone, meaning the president doesn’t need the committee’s vote for every payout.

The real argument is over who belongs on which list, as there is an official list for players and coaches and a separate list for the Executive Committee, whose members already have their AFCON 2025 travel costs covered and receive a daily allowance of 60,000 CFA francs.

The 16 rebels are not on the official list, yet they still want to receive the 50 million CFA franc bonuses promised by the President of Senegal.

They decided to go public with their complaints after President Fall refused to pay them and sent them to the Secretary General instead. But the group is only telling part of the story, according to converging reports.

Still, by taking the fight public after failing to agree with President Fall, the rebels have turned a private office dispute into a national scandal. And the federation’s reputation is now on the line as both sides trade accusations of greed and rule-breaking.
