Fed'in Genel Müfettişinden vergi mükelleflerinin sırtına yüklenen, milyarlarca doları bulan bina inşaatı maliyet aşımlarını incelemesinin istendiğini bildiren Pirro, Genel Müfettişin Fed'i Amerikan vergi mükelleflerine karşı sorumlu tutma yetkisine sahip olduğunu vurguladı. Pirro, kısa süre içinde kapsamlı bir rapor beklediğini ve sonucun celp kararı çıkarılmasına yol açan soruları kesin olarak çözüme kavuşturmaya yardımcı olacağına emin olduğunu kaydetti. Başsavcı Pirro, "Bu doğrultuda Genel Müfettiş bu incelemeyi yürütürken ofisime soruşturmayı kapatması talimatını verdim. Ancak şunun altını çizmek gerekir ki gerçekler gerektirdiği takdirde cezai bir soruşturmayı yeniden başlatmaktan çekinmeyeceğim." ifadesini kullandı. Beyaz Saray Sözcü Yardımcısı Kush Desai tarafından yapılan açıklamada, Amerikalı vergi mükelleflerinin Fed'in mali yönetimindeki hatalarla ilgili açıklama hak ettiği, Genel Müfettişlik Ofisi'nin daha güçlü yetkilerle donatılmasının konunun derinlemesine araştırılması açısından en uygun mekanizma olduğu belirtildi. Açıklamada, "Beyaz Saray, Fed'in karar alma süreçlerinde yetkinliği ve güveni yeniden tesis etmek için Senato'nun Kevin Warsh'ı Fed'in bir sonraki başkanı olarak hızla onaylayacağına, eskiden olduğu kadar güven duymaya devam ediyor." ifadeleri kullanıldı. Fed Başkanı Jerome Powell, ocak ayında yaptığı açıklamada, ABD Adalet Bakanlığının Fed binalarının yenilenmesiyle ilgili olarak kendisine yönelik bir cezai iddianame tehdidinde bulunduğunu duyurmuştu. Powell, cezai suçlama tehdidinin asıl nedeninin Fed'in para politikası kararları olduğunu öne sürmüş ve bunları "bahane" olarak nitelendirmişti. Adalet Bakanlığı, Fed binalarının yenilenme projesi ve Powell'ın geçen yıl Senatonun Bankacılık Komitesi'nde bu konuya değindiği ifadeyle ilgili Fed Yönetim Kurulu'na büyük jüri celbi göndermişti.
