A couple inspected a $1.8million home... they wondered who would pay so much after seeing how the bathroom was set up in a bedroom

Published: 02:00, 5 August 2026 | Updated: 02:01, 5 August 2026 An Aussie couple looking to buy a house were left stunned during an open inspection after discovering a bathroom had been set up in the bedroom.  Lauren Klemt, 28, and her husband Gerard Melchior came across the Lagoon Street townhouse in Narrabeen on Sydney's Northern Beaches. They were immediately turned off by the bedroom's layout after going to an open house for the three-bedroom and three-bathroom property. The couple quickly discovered the 'ensuite' was just a toilet, sink and shower installed without any walls to provide privacy.  '[It was an] absolute deal breaker,' Ms Klemt told Yahoo. 'It was absolutely wild, absolute disbelief, and it was funny,' She said Mr Melchior had briefly considered the two level townhouse.  'He said, "It's not that bad" and "Maybe this is the best we can do",' Ms Klemt said.  An Aussie couple have been left stunned after discovering the bathroom was in full view of the bed while looking for a place to buy 'I said, "Some things are better kept a secret between husband and wife".' Although the floor plan showed an ensuite attached to the master bedroom, it didn't reflect how exposed the bathroom was.  Ms Klemt, who was looking to upgrade from the couple's apartment, said finding a house in today's market was more difficult than it had been four and a half years ago.  'We were only looking for a couple of weeks before we ended up getting a property within our budget, that ticked our boxes,' she said.  'We kind of thought, "Oh, it was easy last time, surely, it's going to be this easy again", and that was a rude awakening for us. 'Now, there is so much more compromise.' The townhouse was listed on February 4 and was sold prior to auction for $1.83million just 22 days later.  Ms Klemt and Mr Melchior eventually found a new home within their budget of $1.5million to $2million.   The couple decided to attend the open house for the three-bedroom, three-bathroom property due to the large crowds it was drawing Mr Melchior had briefly considered the two level townhouse It was described as a 'refreshed townhouse between beach and lake' on its Domain listing and offered a 'calm sense of separation while remaining close to the water’s edge'.  The property also features a 'garden-framed terrace overlooking shared level lawn', a wrap-around kitchen with underfloor heating, timber floors and a private balcony off the master bedroom.
