A 7.4 magnitude earthquake shakes Japan

ALBAWABA - A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake jolted northern Japan, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported Monday,

Japanese authorities issued a Tsunami warning following the strong quake that struck the country, Japan's Meteorological Agency revealed.

The USGS posted on X saying that a "notable quake" hit 100 km ENE of Miyako, Japan.

The earthquake happened at 4:53 p.m. (0753 GMT) in Pacific waters off northern Iwate prefecture.

According to reports, the quake and the tremor were very strong enough to shake large buildings in Tokyo, hundreds of kilometres away from the site of the quake.
